Sheikh Tomb

This structure was known as the Sheikh Tomb for many years until recent excavations uncovered a mosque from the ninth century AD. Later, during the Mamluk period (14th century AD), it was renovated and was enlarged. In its Southern wall is a prayer niche facing south towards Mecca, one of the three holiest cities in Islam. Outside of the mosque, two additional tombs were uncovered with skeletons inside them. One was a child of about seven years old completely intact.
